La Junta Colorado Cabins

We love this KOA and plan to return next year. We visit La Junta every summer, and the campground is beautifully kept, the cabins are sparkling clean, and the location is just right. I'm looking forward to seeing how the railcars progress. Service depends on when you run into the staff. The woman working mornings can be condescending and unusually slow and out of it at times. In the afternoon, one older woman is wonderful, and another woman is always on the go but very kind. I wanted to give service five stars, but it really depends on the time of day.

The park was nice, and our spot felt fairly secluded. Trains were nice to see, and being close to Walmart and Village Inn was a bonus. There was dog poop all along the fence, though, and there needs to be a way to get people to clean up after their pets. We paid extra for a paw pen but couldn't use it because our dog could slip through the pickets. Dogs come in all shapes and sizes, so please account for that when designing the pens. Chicken wire along the bottom would be a simple, inexpensive fix.

I liked the attractive grounds, nice landscaping, spacious premium sites, and old railroad cars on display. They also have a beautifully restored caboose you can stay in. But when my wife got sick and I needed to change our dates, they weren't very accommodating. I booked a new reservation online, then called to cancel the first one. They wouldn't consider a refund, so I ended up paying double.

We stayed in the Cool Caboose 'Cabin', and I really didn't want to leave in the morning. I've stayed in lots of places, but this may be the only one that made me feel that way. Absolutely perfect, highly recommended, and worth going out of your way to reach.
