La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Buena Park

The staff were kind and helpful, which made the room condition all the more disappointing. Mine smelled like dog urine, and I ended up buying Lysol, Febreze, and Clorox wipes. The rooms need a serious update and weren't clean. The hallway carpet had bleach marks all over it, like a very messy cleanup. And don't lift the sheets to check the mattress.

There are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and shops nearby, which worked well for the local business I had to do. Huntington Beach is a short drive away, and Fred's and Dukes are an easy walk for good food. The room was spacious and had a microwave, coffee maker, and mini fridge. Staff at the front were kind, helpful, and always available. Breakfast was small but handy, with bagels, cereal, juice, and a waffle maker.

The staff were attentive and really nice, and my room was clean. The spa by the pool was yellow and smelled bad, though. In the bathroom, the peeling, stained tub and shower could use an update, and the hot and cold plate was loose enough that it was hard to tell which setting was which. Still, it was a nice stay apart from those issues.

The freeway entrances and nearby places to eat were convenient, but the rest of our 1.5-week stay was a letdown, especially with a baby along. Our room seemed to be falling apart, and its condition left us worried about cleanliness and safety. One night, we came back to find a homeless person sleeping in the sixth-floor hallway near our room. We called the front desk from our room phone and the situation was resolved, but we were upset that hotel security seemed so easily compromised with our little one there. The bathtub also drained very slowly because it was clogged. We asked the front desk for help more than once, but nobody came or followed up. Between the poor maintenance, the security concern, and the lack of response, it was an unpleasant stay. I wouldn't recommend the hotel or stay here again.
