Homewood Suites by Hilton La Quinta

The only letdown during my one-night stay was the Jacuzzi, which wasn’t working. After a long day of travel, I’d really been looking forward to the hot tub. Otherwise, it was a great hotel. The location just off Washington Street is convenient, and the staff were super friendly when I checked in. I was told the whole property had recently been renovated, and the lobby looks great. The new carpet smell carries down the halls, and the updates in the room are easy to see.

The room lights were much too bright and irritating. Softer lighting would be better. Breakfast was another weak point. Cereal, toast, or oatmeal would be fine, but the hot options were awful. At 6am, the carnitas meat smelled so bad it seemed to stink up the whole hotel, and the eggs were disgusting. Salt and pepper didn’t help. At least there are other places to get breakfast outside the hotel. It would also be nice to have EV charging, since lots of people drive electric vehicles now. Even with those minor complaints, I’d still come back. My husband and I stayed here for Thanksgiving, and the hotel was quite nice overall, very clean, with comfortable beds.

We chose this hotel for a family trip to Joshua Tree National Park. It’s also well placed for other nearby areas in the Palm Desert, including the Desert Springs Outlet and Palm Springs, and there are lots of shops and places to eat nearby. Parking is plentiful and free. The property has a large outdoor pool, a hot tub, and a barbeque. Our one bedroom suite had two queen beds and a small kitchen with a fridge, microwave, stove, dishes, cups, and utensils. The recently renovated hotel and rooms looked new and clean, and the front desk staff I met were all friendly. Breakfast was free, with a good range of hot and continental choices each morning. The young woman working there was nice as well. Our room problems made the stay difficult. The toilet in the first room overflowed, flooding the bathroom, so we had to move to a room with a king bed and sofa bed. The hotel was full and that was the only room available. With two adults and four kids, three of us had to share the king bed, while one child slept on the floor using sofa cushions as a bed. The next day we moved again, into a bedroom suite with two queens. We ended up in three different rooms over two nights. We also found raised sections in the kitchen’s vinyl floor, so the renovation work seemed a bit sloppy. Despite all that, I think it’s a good place for families with children.

The hotel is beautiful after its remodel. The rooms are clean, have full kitchens except for ovens, and the a/c works amazingly well. Staff seemed friendly. We’ve stayed here for many years and I’ve often recommended it to friends and family from out of town, as well as my clients. We came recently for my grandson’s 4th birthday because he loves hotels, and this was the obvious choice. I thought I might have left something in the room, and trying to check lost and found was absolutely ridiculous. You can only call housekeeping during its hours. Don’t leave a message, either, because they never seem to listen or call back. I started on Sunday, and by Wednesday I’d spoken with so many people, including a manager. She eventually said they hadn’t found anything. She promised to call me back in 10 minutes, but after an hour I had to call her. She said she’d left a voicemail, but there was no voicemail or missed call. At this point it wasn’t even about the item. Getting a simple answer shouldn’t take this much running around, and nobody followed through. The way it was handled, with no urgency or interest in getting back to guests about something important to them, has soured my feelings about the hotel. Once you check out, it seems like you no longer matter. I’m beyond frustrated, and I won’t be back.
