Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Waco North

The room was small but seemed clean at first, until I got to the shower. There was what looked like mold and grime in one corner, a pubic hair on the rail over the soap dispenser, and black mold visible in the sink overflow. I also couldn't get hot water, even after running the shower for almost ten minutes. It only got less cold, so I took a cold shower. After a rough night, I got up at 4 a.m. and discovered that. The night was rough because at 1 a.m. someone tried to open my door and got it open until the deadbolt stopped it. They had apparently been given a key to my room and kept banging the door back and forth until I answered. It startled me, especially after staff had said the area was too dangerous to walk around in. When we arrived, we were told they were out of bottled water, which was inconvenient given that warning. The pool was out of order, too. I was a little dehydrated and got maybe three hours of sleep. I'm giving it two stars because the room looked generally clean, but I won't stay here again.

Even on a really busy weekend, the hotel was quiet and we slept well. The pool was clean and cool, with a nice shower and bathroom area. We had no problems during our stay, despite having been unsure after reading mixed reviews. The halls and our room both smelled clean, and the bathroom was nice, with a sliding glass shower door and complimentary soaps. We'd definitely recommend it.

The room wasn't clean to an acceptable standard and didn't seem properly maintained. The ice machines also weren't working, which was a real inconvenience. I found the front area uncomfortable because it smelled strongly of marijuana, apparently from employees smoking openly near the entrance where guests could see and smell it. Staff were rarely at the desk when I needed help, and even basic requests became frustrating. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless they improve cleanliness, staff professionalism, and basic amenities.

Our room was okay, breakfast was okay, and service was fine. I asked for extra towels, but they never arrived. The main reason we booked was the indoor pool, and we found out at check-in that it was closed for maintenance. They said we could use an outdoor pool at another hotel somewhere down the road, but couldn't say how far away it was. Not the best stay I've had, but not the worst either.
