This Lafayette, Indiana, one looks like it used to be a Holiday Inn and has the potential to be much nicer. Instead, breakfast was a crock pot of lukewarm gravy, with no scrambled eggs or sausage. I keep forgetting to bring real maple syrup from Aldi for the waffle iron 🙂 Quality Inns in general seem to be slipping. For 20 years I've chosen them, Comfort Inn, and Sleep Inn as decent, clean, reasonably priced places. Their continental breakfasts have gotten really poor. At the second-to-last one I stayed in, a Comfort Inn in Thomasville, NC, there was an unpleasant smell I couldn't identify.

We canceled the second night of the two we had paid for, even though the payment was non-refundable. There was no way we could stay another night. When we told staff at checkout, the front desk associate was polite, but said the previous guests had reported no dog in the room. We asked them to check the cameras because we thought the earlier guests might have had a dog, not declared it to avoid the pet fee, and left the mess. We cleaned it ourselves. The smell had lasted all night. We first thought it could be our dog, but my husband pointed out the beds had closed sides, so nothing could be underneath them. In the morning, when we pulled out the chair for breakfast, we found dog feces beneath the table. Our dog is extremely well-behaved and has never had an accident. He always goes outside, or in very rare emergencies, on the pad. What we found was also clearly from a larger animal. The room at Quality Inn & Suites Lafayette was not properly cleaned. There was pubic hair on the toilet, a dirty bathroom mirror, and a foul smell from the moment we entered. We checked in very late, and although I noticed the hair and mirror right away, I tried to ignore them rather than haul all our belongings through the motel in case we had to move. We even joked about it at first. The room was also in poor shape: paint was badly peeling from the ceiling, and the door looked chewed or heavily damaged. This level of cleanliness and maintenance is unacceptable and suggests serious housekeeping and management problems. I would not recommend staying here.

It's fine if all you need is a place to sleep, but the beds aren't comfortable. Bring your own body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. The smell is really weird, not smoke or weed.

The staff were friendly, attentive, hardworking, and quick to respond to requests. They kept the breakfast area spotless. Breakfast was good and clean, though the choices were limited: great Belgian mini waffles and coffee, with apples as the only fruit. Towels and trash were taken care of daily, but the room wasn't vacuumed. The toilet seat needs replacing. It's an older hotel in the middle of extensive remodeling. The pool wasn't open, and there are a lot of homeless people around the hotel. It was quiet, in a good location, and easy to get in and out of. The floors have coin-operated washers and dryers, which is nice. There is a small gym with a treadmill, bike, and weights, and everything worked. I used the treadmill daily, though the workout room needs disinfectant spray for cleaning the equipment before and after use. I asked the front desk for some.

This place is old and outdated, and badly run. I paid for two nights but stayed only one, and they wouldn't refund the unused night because the manager had been out of town for two weeks. Avoid it. I learned my lesson and will spend the extra money for a Marriott or Hampton.
