Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

The last hours of our once-in-a-lifetime Disney trip turned into a disaster because of bell services at Boulder Ridge Villas (Wilderness Lodge). We’d arranged for help with luggage at early checkout. I went to the bell services desk the night before to ask for a 4:00 AM pickup, but was told to call when the bags were ready and someone would arrive in 5-10 minutes. We called at 4:00 as instructed and waited a full hour, making a follow-up call before a bellman finally came. We had a flight to catch, so that delay was unacceptable. Bill arrived around 5:00 AM, seeming groggy and rushed. We were traveling with five young children and had several bags. I offered to carry or load them, but he said he’d handle it and meet us downstairs. I was concerned about the lost time, but trusted the cast member and hurried my family to the lobby for the airport shuttle. I offered again to help load the luggage onto the bus, and Bill again assured me he’d do it. I even tipped him generously despite the wait, something I regret now. At the airport, we realized one suitcase was missing. My wife and children were already heading to check-in, and the bag held important things for our family. I had to take a last-minute taxi back to the resort to retrieve it, a 30+ minute drive each way that cost $259. I missed our scheduled flight. My wife then had to fly home alone with our five children, all under age 8, while I was left in Orlando trying to catch up. To rejoin them, I bought a same-day one-way ticket for $489. The taxi and new ticket cost us about $748 altogether, on top of the emotional strain. We followed the instructions, checked the luggage, offered help, and trusted the staff. This was preventable with basic care. The resort gave us no proactive help when the bag was left behind, not even a call or warning, so I had to scramble on my own. At another Disney resort, a bellhop once left a family’s stroller behind and a manager arranged to have it driven to the airport in 90 minutes, but nothing like that was offered in time here. Our vacation went from magical to miserable because of this carelessness, perhaps worsened by lack of sleep.
