Motel 6 Lake Charles On The Bayou

The room and the outside area were clean, and the front desk lady was kind, patient, and helpful. We’d come for a simple weekend away, so I wasn’t expecting much from a motel 6 and wasn’t disappointed. The rate did feel a little high to me, and the only room issue was that there wasn’t a shower curtain. I didn’t think that was a huge deal.

I travel a lot for rideshare work and stay in hotels often, and this is a good affordable deal in what I think is the best part of lake charles, down the road from 2 casinos. I don’t think you’ll find a better hotel deal here. I got one of the remodeled rooms, which was clean and very nice. The AC worked great in the daytime, and the heater worked well too when it got cold in winter. The bathroom was clean, there were lots of HD cable channels through suddenlink with an on-screen guide, and the staff were very helpful. They say all the rooms will be remodeled soon, so please be patient with this location and don’t pay attention to the negative reviews.

The one good part was the young woman at the front desk when I checked out. The room itself was grimy, with dirty tables and an ice bucket that looked used. There were stains on the towels, blankets, and sheets. Worst of all, my 12 year old daughter spotted a used needle in the wall towel holder while brushing her hair. It looked like there was still something in it. At the lobby, a guy said he’d “make note of it,” which made me think this might happen often, but nobody came to remove it or check on the room. I know the price is low, but I’m still paying for a clean room and bed. These rooms aren’t being cleaned well at all.

The location is great, but that’s about it. We ended up at the Candlewood nearby after walking through the parking lot and quickly checking in there, and the difference was huge. When we first arrived, check-in was easy and the lobby looked clean, so we hoped things might be okay. They weren’t. The room floor looked like it hadn’t been swept for weeks, the furniture edges looked chewed up, the linens were dirty, and the mattress seemed only about 5 inches high. We also saw two women sitting on the steps with their legs open, braiding each other’s hair, then several women standing in their doorways downstairs, possibly advertising. It all felt sketchy. The next morning I went over to return the keys and heard cleaning ladies discussing room ###, saying it was staying safe and that one thought someone had paid up her room. Who was the someone? How can they not know whether the room has been paid? Just a trashy place. It could make money if they cleaned it up and kicked out the riff-raft, but this was the worst place ever and a waste of our money.
