Courtyard By Marriott Lake City

We finally left instead of trying yet another room, and then found out a refund wasn’t something to expect. A different desk clerk said they don’t give refunds, and the general manager wouldn’t give me the time of day. I work for Marriott myself, and I’m so disappointed. I can’t imagine treating a guest like a nuisance like that. We were breaking up the drive to Fort Myers and arrived around 8 p.m. Check-in was lovely, and the associate was sweet and accommodating. The hotel looked updated. We ate a lackluster turkey BLT at the Bistro, then found a huge roach climbing up the curtain and wall as I was getting ready for bed. The front desk offered to move us, and we appreciated that. In the second room, there was a big black spiderweb hanging in plain sight on the wall. When we went back to switch again, the desk clerk was incredibly rude. Cleanliness should come naturally at a Marriott, and the housekeeping didn’t seem detail-oriented. I was hesitant when we entered the next room. We sat down for a moment, then my husband spotted blood on the sheets. By then I was furious. It was 12:30, we’d driven all day, and they were offering a fourth room. I was 15 weeks pregnant and ready to sleep, so I wasn’t going to move again. We checked out and took our chances elsewhere.

We had a good stay, and Tiffany and Braxton handled a small check-in mix-up smoothly. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there was plenty of parking that felt safe. The location just off I-75 is handy for an overnight stop. The new hotel has a modern look, a large lobby with a bar and lounge area, a small enclosed pool, and a big patio that could hold a group. Our two-queen room was clean and spacious. The fitness room was clean, with working treadmills, ellipticals, dumbbells, kettlebells, a cable machine, and TVs on the machines. The bar was nice, with typical hotel drink prices. Breakfast and dinner are available for purchase at the Bistro.

The hotel seemed nearly full from how much of the large parking lot was in use, but it was still quiet at night. We stayed after a family holiday gathering. The place looks great and the room still had that new-car smell. We had breakfast at the Bistro, where the service was fast and courteous.

The beds were really comfortable, and I got a great night’s sleep. For an overnight stay, this hotel was a good choice. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff were helpful, and the Bistro food was adequate.
