Days Inn by Wyndham Lake City I-10

I only stopped here because I had an emergency and couldn’t make it the five miles to the much nicer hotels farther up the road. The lot has bright runway-style lights at night, which at least seems to acknowledge how sketchy the place feels, but they inexplicably shut off at 6 a.m. while it was still dark. The front desk staff were pleasant enough, but not much help. When I reported that the toilet wouldn’t flush, I got a “sorry” and a blank look. I had to ask for a plunger, and when that didn’t work, I told them again. No offer to move rooms or anything else. The room was muggy, the AC barely worked, and it was filthy. After seven hours, my kids’ feet and mine were black from the floors. There were black hairs everywhere, though none of us have black hair. The phone was plugged in but couldn’t call anyone, even the desk. The sheets at least looked clean, but the towels didn’t. One night came to $130, including a nonrefundable pet fee of $20 or maybe $25 per pet. This wasn’t worth even the $70 or $80 room rate. Avoid it unless you absolutely can’t drive any farther.

For a hotel off the highway that felt pretty dicey and in the middle of nowhere, the rooms were way better than I expected. My employees were impressed too, and I travel a lot. The front desk woman was awesome even though it was really late. She got me sorted out quickly and kindly, and I think she even saved me a couple of dollars. After just a few hours of sleep, I grabbed breakfast at the Huddle House next door and headed on to Tallahassee. A+.

My baby crawled around on the floor for about 30 minutes, then had to have a bath. His hands, knees, and feet were black. We even found a pencil under the sheets, so I’m guessing they hadn’t been changed, and the towels had other people’s hair in them. Disgustingly dirty. 0/10, don’t recommend.

Breakfast was just cold coffee and stale bread, with cinnamon raisin as the only variety. No water, juice, milk, yogurt, or anything else. When I asked for water or plain bread, staff said that was all they were allowed to put out and told me to call and complain because they couldn’t do anything. That’s a pretty poor breakfast, especially for kids who can’t drink coffee or have a cinnamon allergy, and it felt like false advertising. Housekeeping never came when requested. The shower still had a previous guest’s used soap, a razor cap in the drain, and soap scum, and it was stopped up. The tub was left dirty and wouldn’t drain. The gutters also leak and pour above your room. Staff were unfriendly and unprofessional, and I won’t be back. I’ll tell others to steer clear too.
