Driftwood Inn

The room was gross and poorly cleaned, with dirt and stains all over the walls. The AC made such a loud noise we couldn’t sleep. Supplies were sparse: one towel, one washcloth, one bar of soap, a little tear-open shampoo and conditioner packet, and a single garbage can for the whole room. There were no blankets, just sheets and a canvas-like decorative cover. We asked for more towels and washcloths and were told we’d have to wait until housekeeping came the next day. The hot and cold faucet labels were switched around, so I badly burned my hands and mouth while brushing my teeth. The bathroom floor was slippery, with no rug and no spare towels to put down. The door lock didn’t work, and the chain had no piece to attach it to, so we wedged a chair under the handle. The toilet had an oversized tank lid that nearly fell off when you sat down, and the seat was broken and unattached. I’m seven months pregnant and fell off it when I sat down. Then they kept part of our deposit for “a small stain on both bed sheets and a towel.” We’d only used one bed, and she changed her explanation to “oh we knew about the one stain.” The linens were already stained and dingy. The towel they said was stained had only been used on the wet bathroom floor, so if a stain appeared, it came from their dirty, unwashed floor. Normal wear on linens isn’t property damage, and I contacted my credit card company to try to get the deposit back. These people are slum lords and will do everything to steal your money. Stay far away.

I slept well in this quiet, no-frills room. It was $72 for the night, with a comfortable bed, pillows that felt just right, and a hot shower with good pressure. The coffee in the morning was cold. The motel dates to the 90s, though the building itself is older, and it was very clean for its age.

They said we’d get our deposits back, but after one $50 payment came through, they charged us for a towel and took $10 from the second deposit. We were supposed to get $90 back altogether. They cancel your payment as soon as you walk out the door. They accused us of damage even after they had inspected the room while we stood there watching. This place is run terribly. The woman at this hotel is also tied in with the Baymont and scamming people. DO NOT STAY HERE!

We’ve stopped here overnight around Christmas for about three years now. It’s always been pretty clean and dependable, and the staff are friendly. The beds aren’t amazing, but they’re comfortable enough for one night.
