Baymont Inn & Suites Hot Springs

The location was the best part of our stay. Back in the room, there was mold around the window seal, the bathroom fan kept running, and housekeeping hadn’t cleaned the room by the time we returned that night. Breakfast was a mess too. The room and fridge needed cleaning, the tables and counters were dirty, and the half-and-half was past its 3-31 date when we were there on 4-5. The biscuits were hard and the sausage didn’t seem fresh. We came back one evening to find the hotel evacuated because of a reported gas leak. The fire department checked and let us back in about half an hour later, but around 11:15 pm the alarm sounded again and we had to leave. We waited in the car another 30 minutes while they checked. We were told they found nothing. The alarm went off briefly two more times after that, so we barely slept. We were highly disappointed, especially for a Wyndham hotel. The desk attendant wasn’t helpful. When we asked about it, she said she hadn’t been on duty then.

The lake view from our room was the one bright spot. The lobby is pleasant, though small, but the room itself felt dated and needed repairs. We had to call the front desk as soon as we arrived to get someone to clean it, and there was dust everywhere. Some tables were broken, the walls were chipped, and the sheer curtains were missing, with damage around the windows. The main curtain already had small holes that look likely to get bigger. Breakfast was not good, either. We won’t stay here again, especially with nicer hotels nearby.

The rooms were spacious and seemed clean, but getting checked in took about 45 minutes. I waited roughly 15 minutes at the desk with no one around, went to unload my luggage, then came back and still found nobody. An employee eventually arrived, called the manager, and about ten minutes later the manager checked us in. She first gave us a lake-view room without the balcony we had booked. After we went up and saw the mistake, she moved us to another floor. Our main complaint was breakfast. The area was filthy and poorly stocked, nothing like the website photos. There was one unpleasant bottle each of ketchup and syrup for everyone. The only cereal was Fruit Loops or Captain Crunch, and the fridge held just a half gallon of half-and-half and a half gallon of milk. No oatmeal or yogurt, and the bananas were past their best. The pancake maker ran out of mix, with no more available.

The spot right on the water was beautiful, and the sunset was amazing. The hotel was clean overall, and breakfast was hot and fresh, pretty typical for this level of place. The lobby restroom was out of toilet paper in three of its four stalls, though, and there was no coffee creamer, just a half gallon of half-and-half past its sell-by date. I was disappointed to find the air conditioning is controlled centrally for the whole hotel, so you can’t adjust it in your room. It got a bit uncomfortable. Still, the price and location were so good that I’d stay again, and bring a fan next time.
