South Shore Lake Resort

We rented a lovely, well-stocked 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit for the weekend and enjoyed the lake view. The pool by the lake had nice shade, though bugs and mosquitoes were a bit of a problem, and there were no public bathrooms nearby. Since the property is built on a hillside, daily walks were challenging. We also took our granddaughter to the playground.

The office staff were fantastic and really friendly. We had a large downstairs 2-bedroom unit, with huge bedrooms and beds. The patio had a wonderful view. This is the best vacation resort we've ever stayed at.

The view was hard to beat, and the grounds were spotless and nicely manicured. Our VRBO rental at SSLR had an easy, quick, convenient no-contact check-in and check-out.

The air conditioning worked, and the view of Lake Hamilton was great. Those were the only things we liked about our stay. After 30 years of timeshare vacations, these were the worst accommodations we've had. Our 2-bed, 2-bath unit smelled musty, with very old damaged carpet, stained peeling wallpaper, and water spots on the ceilings. The next morning, all of us, including my two children under 3, had scratchy throats and runny noses. We felt better after spending the day away from the resort, but the symptoms returned after a couple of days in the replacement room, which had the same conditions, even though the air seemed better. The lakeside pool had mold in the gap between the pool wall and the ground, and its entry handrail was loose and shook when we held it. We enjoyed Hot Springs and will return to town, but we'd rather camp in our trailer than stay at South Shore Lake Resort again.
