Days Inn by Wyndham Lake Havasu

We picked this motel for its price and location, but I won't return. The room had space, yet it was badly worn, and the bedding was ridiculous. The fitted sheets were too small to stay on, and the tiny throw pillows were supposed to serve as sleeping pillows. Towels felt rough, and the sink was much too tall with no hot water. We could hear the breakfast toaster and waffle iron from the next room through the thin walls. Outside lights shone into the room all night because the drapes didn't cover the window. Not a good stay.

Housekeeping was awful. There was old leftover food behind the furniture in my room, and marijuana smoke outside kept drifting in. It was cold and rainy in Lake Havasu that week, but my heater never worked. The hot tub was cold too, and during my three days there I never got hot water in the bathtub. I have a sore back and was counting on soaking, so that was especially disappointing. For a place that isn't even the cheapest in Havasu, saving $10 a night isn't worth it. Pick somewhere else. Don't stay here.

We didn't stay long enough to learn whether the reviews calling this place wonderful were right. I checked the mattress as I always do, and saw what looked like bedbug signs on the lower box spring. It was wrapped, but along the zipper at the upper right corner there were signs they might have been treated already or could still be there. I wasn't going to find out. We booked somewhere else and left. Maybe the people sitting outside smoking should have been our first warning, followed by the crooked bed skirt.

A cockroach ran across my foot when I got up to use the bathroom on our last night. We killed it and mentioned it at checkout. The staff member asked whether it was big or little, and seemed pleased when we said big because apparently those are less invasive. The room also smelled strongly of marijuana that night, and a dog barked loudly and repeatedly at 2:30 a.m. I know the barking wasn't the motel's fault, but it added to an awful stay. The room was filthy. Walking barefoot and then stepping into the tub left black marks, and the comforter had spots that looked like blood. We stayed five nights because we couldn't get our money back, and the sheets were never changed. Housekeeping came in once while we stepped outside to give them room, stayed about three minutes, and didn't even make the bed. The fridge kept things cool, but the freezer was disgusting and looked like it hadn't been defrosted. Breakfast was a joke too. The four-slice toaster only worked on one side, and a sign said so. On top of that, the walls were so thin we heard the breakfast appliances from the room next door. Unless they make major changes, I won't come back and wouldn't recommend it.
