Roaches are everywhere, so bring Raid. The room is decent for the price I needed for the next four days, but the blanket had yellow stains and the towels still had makeup on them. Only a few lights worked, the bathroom was dark, the mirror was fogged, and the AC barely worked. The area felt sketchy, and I wouldn't go outside alone. The desk staff were pleasant, but don't talk to housekeeping. I won't even ask for a refund to move somewhere else because I know it won't happen. Breakfast was a no for me: roaches around, no juice, just coffee or tea, and waffles or cereal. Go out to eat. The pool looks like a pond. It seems this was once a beautiful hotel, but it needs a lot of care.

For the price, this place is amazing, and it can feel like you have the whole hotel to yourself since it isn't crowded. It's comfortable, quiet, and nice, and costs far less than what you seem to get. I plan to stay here when I visit Lake Jackson again. I'd call it a 6/10, though I highly recommend the Clarion. It's an older hotel and you can see its age, but it's clean and still very nice. Unfortunately, I did see quite a few roaches.

The location was great, close to the highway, and it was quiet. We saw no random people in the parking lot, just some cute cats. The woman working the desk at night was friendly and helpful. My bed didn't have a mattress protector, and she brought one up for me. I offered to put it on myself. The room was sort of clean. Towels, pillows, and bedding all had stains, though they looked like washed-out coffee stains. I checked carefully for bugs in room 108 beside the lobby desk because of the reviews. I went in with the lights off and searched with my phone light, behind pictures and inside everything, even took apart the bed. I saw no bugs, but there were large marks on the walls where bugs had been killed. We kept our things in the car and slept with some lights on, hoping that might keep them away during our short stay. The connecting room's second door was wide open when we arrived. Its chain worked, but the bolt lock was completely broken. Shampoo, body wash, and conditioner were empty. The tap water looked clean. The room was dusty and dirty looking, with thick air, some mold, no bathroom fan, and windows that wouldn't open. I didn't want to touch the heat or AC unit. There was a musty smell, and a lobby fountain full of water that wasn't running. Breakfast didn't work out for us. The coffee wasn't good and ran out before either of my two cups was full. The waffle mix had run out by 8 a.m. too, though maybe they refilled it later. We left. We did get a decent night's sleep and made it through without any huge problems, but I wouldn't stay again. It served its purpose as a place to sleep for one night. We'd arrived late in the Surfside Beach area after getting good food at Sharkies, and booked this room quickly on a few third-party sites. The prices were similar, this one was a little cheaper, the location looked good, and the pictures seemed clean. We paid for a nonrefundable booking. Later, after finding all the bad reviews, we were almost ready to give up and sleep in the car.

Nasty is the word for it. The towels were stained brown, and brown water came out of the faucets. I paid for two nights and tried to tough it out, but the sheer number of roaches everywhere overnight was too much. I checked out at 6 a.m. the next day and was told I'd get a refund for night two. It never came. When I called about it, they hung up on me several times.

I liked the character and charm here, and it was a welcome change from cookie-cutter hotels that cost twice as much. The price was great, and I had no problems with bugs or cleanliness. The linens weren't fresh and fluffy, but everything seemed clean. The AC in the room worked, even though the hallways smelled musty. With major renovations, I think this place could shine again. I wish I'd had more time to explore all its hidden spaces.
