The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the gardens have a charming feel, though they aren't well maintained. Watch out for the sloped steps on the lake side. I loved how peaceful my stay was. Getting to the garden rooms, though, was a whole process: through the lobby, around the sitting area, down steps with no suitcase ramp, past HK's restaurant and out to the garden path, then you have to find your room. The large glass doors and windows face that path, so strangers looking in while you're lying down feels unsettling. The curtains are very sheer and too short to cover everything, so you'll have to move things around to block the view. Even then, finding the curtain edge to get to the door can take 2-3 minutes, and the fabric can get caught when you close it. There wasn't much lighting in the room, and our party of four didn't have enough towels or toilet paper for two nights.

The pool and workout spaces were great, with some unusual features, and the staff were very friendly. Our room had lots of windows for taking in the views. I know other reviews call the hotel outdated, but to me the atmosphere was really pleasant and the place seemed well cared for.

We had dinner at HK's and enjoyed everything, but breakfast there was a different story. We waited at the entrance for about ten minutes without anyone helping us, even though the restaurant wasn't busy, so we went elsewhere. At check-in, I asked Katie whether our king room had a lake view. She said it didn't, but offered us a room with two double beds and a great view for $30 less. We took it. I thought I'd downgraded and expected a bill around $258 plus tax, but I've been charged $323. The property could use an overall upgrade, and our room had no microwave. The pool was all the way across the hotel, which also wasn't great for that price. I spoke with Robert, the manager, and he was very nice. Still, I probably won't return.

Beautiful lake views and a lot to do made the stay memorable, even though most of the resort was closed for the season. There was a Japanese Garden, indoor pool, gym, spa, game room, outdoor fire pits, a cozy lobby fireplace, and a real movie theater with popcorn. The Lodge of Four Seasons has an appealing vintage feel, but its heyday seems long past. Much of the décor, including the carpet, looks like it dates from the 60s or 70s, and the rooms are outdated. Housekeeping won't clean the room unless you ask. The cafeteria shut early, and the restaurant adds a 20% gratuity automatically, whatever your experience.
