Port Elsewhere

We’re coming back next week for stay number four. The grounds are kept clean and attractive, and the view from the big decks is magnificent. The rooms suit our needs perfectly, and getting out to fish on the lake is easy.

We’ve been coming to The Lake of the Ozarks for family vacations and girls’ trips for 20 years, and I wouldn’t choose anywhere else to stay. Port feels like a home away from home, thanks in large part to Lori and Chad, who are wonderful to work with and make every visit worthwhile. The location, just off the Bagnell Dam and The Strip, puts nightlife and popular lakeside restaurants close by. Back at the condo, there’s plenty of room to spread out, a fully stocked kitchen, two bedrooms, and two full bathrooms. I love having coffee on the private deck in the morning and catching up there in the evening, with those great lake views. Families have lots to do too: indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, a swim-up dock with lake access, and a playground. The pools and hot tub are all centrally located on the property.

The unit itself was clean, roomy, and comfortable, though clearly old. Unfortunately, the rest of the resort was in rough shape, and we left after just two nights because the place didn’t feel right to us. Before arrival, we called several times with questions and heard nothing back until the day we arrived. The resort is hemmed in by parked boats after the nearby yacht club bought the land, leaving only enough space for parking. Cars in the unassigned guest spots seemed to belong to people living in the units, and they drove through the lot dangerously. Around the property, the pool area was moldy, bolts stuck out of the playset and walkways, and the front entrance was cluttered with debris and discarded items, including a dishwasher, tires, and wood. Our toddler was scared. The keys were left in a mailbox anyone could open. I’ve never seen an RCI complex in this poor a condition.

We stayed here last October and had a delightful time!
