Maple Leaf Inn - Lake Placid

The owner had promised better communication four months ago, and I’d seen other reviews about guests not being able to reach anyone. We drove 6 hours, only to find the entry code for our room didn’t work. We called the service number and left a message, but never got in, despite being charged for the room. We had to find another hotel. We did get a refund, but nobody called to explain or apologize. They’ve lost our business, and we’ll be visiting about 6 weekends a year for the next 4 years. Do better. Answer the phone and give us a new code.

We booked for a group, and it was a bad experience for everyone. The bathrooms had poop in them, the floor was dirty, and there was opened toilet paper and used soap. There weren’t enough towels, no hot water, and everything was in poor condition. There was also a lot of noise in the middle of the night.

Once we got settled, the week went well: the room was very clean, the king beds were comfortable, and the fridge had separate freezer and refrigerator sections. There was also a microwave, although it wasn’t listed. Parking was plentiful, and grocery stores and attractions were nearby. We didn’t realize housekeeping had to be requested, and when we ran out of toiletries, we texted. We were told housekeeping was on site from 9am-3pm, but we were away most of the day and missed them. Management understood and kindly sent someone back in the evening with supplies. We’re used to having a front desk, so the setup took some getting used to, but the management team helped us through it. Check-in itself was rough after 6 hours of driving in the dark. We were told the code and room number would arrive by 4pm and to reach out if they didn’t. We contacted them several times but got neither, so we knocked, called, texted, and emailed. The property manager, who wasn’t handling check-in, helped, and eventually we got a call back.

There’s no front desk, but they send the room number and entry code before you arrive, so getting in was really easy. We stayed one night to see the fall colors and found the motel clean and quiet, with a comfortable bed, large TV, fridge, and microwave. Mirror Lake is about a 10-minute walk away, with plenty of shops and restaurants. Good value for the price, and we’ll come back.
