Best Western Denver Southwest

The kids loved the dinosaur artifacts and artwork, especially digging in the big sandbox for bones with their paleontologist skills. The staff were friendly, and the rooms were clean and very comfortable. We got two connecting rooms at a great price. I absolutely love this hotel and will stay here on future trips to Denver.

The bed was extremely creaky and transferred a lot of motion, which was jarring when we were awake. It didn't wake either of us while sleeping, though. Everything else made the stay fun. The front desk was quick and professional, and the room was very nice. Breakfast was quite good, with a nice selection of hot sauces for the eggs. They also had everything set up for breakfast burritos, which took more effort than most places put into breakfast. The dinosaur decor is tacky in a fun way. Some of the pieces are genuine or on loan, so take time to read the display plaques. The stairwell artwork gives the building a little more soul.

I usually just want the cheapest hotel that doesn't mention bed bugs, somewhere I can sleep and shower before moving on. But spotting one listed on Atlas Obscura as DENVER’S DINOSAUR HOTEL made me stop searching and book it. There are dozens of fossils in the lobby, great paintings in the stairway, room numbers that look carved from red rock, and even a dinosaur print pillow on the bed. The owners of this charming Best Western put their passion into making the place different, and it shows. I love and respect that. I wish more business owners would invest that way.

The one thing to keep in mind is that there's no elevator. If you have bad knees, legs, or health issues, I'd recommend asking for a first-floor room. We stayed near the gym for our grandson's pro fight, at the BEST Western Denver. The attendant was very nice and patient. The dinosaur artifacts everywhere made the decor awesome. Our room was clean and nice, the beds were really comfy, and the showers had strong flow and great hot water.
