Southern Inn Suites Lamesa

The room was fine, and the clerk quickly unlocked the lobby and checked us in when we arrived at 6 pm. Breakfast is no longer served, which was also fine. But getting help when we left was a problem. The number we were told to call for the front desk went unanswered at 8 am, even after six calls. We'd left personal belongings in our room and needed to get back in. At check-in, we were told to leave the keys in the room, so we had no way inside. That was very upsetting. A front desk clerk is a basic hotel service. You have to call a number just to get into the lobby, too.

I always look over the bed, and this one was messy with holes in the blankets. Behind it were what I identified as mouse droppings and dead bugs. When I asked for a refund, the woman said I couldn't tell the difference between Rollie pollies and mouse poop. I said I had pictures, but she replied that she didn't need to see them. She called me difficult and insisted on speaking with my husband instead. He took over, and she sent a housekeeper to check while keeping her on speaker. The housekeeper said she couldn't see anything until my husband pointed out where it was, then they went quiet. The woman was rude to both of us.

This doesn't belong on a three-star list. I arrived at 10:09 to find the lobby locked and empty, even though the sign said it closed from 10:30 pm to 9 am and to call for reservations. My room was ice cold with the heater off. Once I turned it on, one half blew warm air and the other half cool. The towels and blankets were thin, water pressure was poor, and I had to shower with the water all the way hot. The sink drained slowly, too. They seem to be cutting corners where they shouldn't for a "3 star hotel."

The room was a good size and very clean, with a great shower and a really comfortable bed. The outside was tidy and looked nice. A little pricey, but I got a good night's rest.
