Cayuga Blu Hotel

The hotel looks a little sketchy from the outside, but inside it was lovely. The lobby fireplace was warm, and Sandy at the desk greeted us. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, and the heating and air conditioning worked well. Ann and Nancy in the breakfast area were cheerful and kind. Even with the hotel full, the showers had strong hot water. Weekend breakfast had plenty of tasty hot food. Monday's selection had waffles and fewer hot options, but there was still plenty. The negative reviews felt exaggerated to me. They can provide a coffee maker for your room if you want one. I'd suggest locks on the outside doors for safety, but otherwise it was a good choice.

For the price, this was a great find. We expected something basic, motel-style, since we were traveling on a budget, but it turned out better than we thought. The staff were friendly and professional, and our room was clean without any smell, which matters to me because I'm sensitive to odors. Breakfast was better than average, especially the homemade pumpkin bread, with a good continental spread too. We'll stay here whenever we're back in town.

The staff did their best and were nice, and breakfast was pretty good. Our room was clean apart from visible mold damage on the ceilings. Getting there meant walking through a filthy, water-damaged hallway that was dark and unsettling. The walls had lights knocked down or not working, and their surveillance was just a blink camera. The whole place felt creepy, almost haunted. It clearly needs to be torn down and rebuilt. The hotel was very dated and mold was obvious everywhere. We were there for a volleyball camp at Cornell University, and I wouldn't stay here if I had any choice.

Being forced to leave halfway through the evening was humiliating and traumatic, and I ended up sleeping in my car that night. After booking five nights through an online booking site at a great rate, they made things up to kick me out, so they could relist the room at a much higher nightly price. I heard the housekeeping staff waiting to go in and clean say exactly that as I packed. They gave me only 20 minutes to get my things out, and refunded just a small part of what I'd paid, days later. Do everything you can to stay elsewhere, even sleep in a tent if you have to, rather than be treated this way so they can make a few extra dollars.
