Courtyard by Marriott Lansing

The AC barely cooled the room, and even set to its lowest temperature it left me sweating at night. It's also too far from the bed. There was no microwave, and breakfast wasn't included; you had to pay for it despite the room not being cheap. The room wasn't cleaned until after three days, and no one provided room service or clearly explained that in advance. The doorknob took a lot of force to open. In the shower, the red-marked hot side ran cold and the blue cold side ran hot, which was dangerous and misleading. This was the worst hotel I've stayed at in Lansing, and I've stayed at quite a few.

The new shower is a nice improvement, but the sliding glass panel sits under the showerhead. To warm the water before getting in, you have to step right into the spray rather than enter from the back. The bathroom has nice slate tiles, though there were dried footprints all over them. There wasn't a chair in the room, either. During the renovation, the card readers had been removed, so the front desk had to let us into our room every time. Inside, the deadbolt didn't work, and the security latch couldn't be used because its knob had been removed. Marriott is so much better than this, which makes me sad to write. I like the brand, but can't understand why they haven't sorted this property out. They had staffing problems and lots of issues during Covid, and after a couple of years away, it seems worse while renovation is underway.

I didn't feel safe in my first-floor room because its window wouldn't lock. After using the gym, I waited 11 minutes for someone at the desk to let me back into my room. The key system wasn't working, so guests had to be let in one by one. My colleagues and I were sitting in the lobby when they switched off all the lights at 9:58, leaving us in the dark. My room was on an active renovation floor. Carpets were covered with construction material, and bags of debris were left in the hallway after work hours. This was the worst Marriott property I've stayed at. Motel Six is better, at least they leave the light on. It might be nice once the remodel is done, but for now, avoid it.

The suburban location is okay, and that's about all I liked. The room looked worn out, and there are construction signs around the hotel. From other comments, it sounds like the renovation is taking a long time. Staff seemed apathetic and uninterested in making guests happy. I probably won't stay here again, though I don't hold this experience against other Marriott locations.
