The basketball arena, Pan American Center, is really close, and I could see it and the football stadium from my window. The stadium is a bit farther away, though there’s a path for people walking over. I saw groups using it, but I wouldn’t go alone. If you need to be near the college, the location works well, and Old Mesilla is an easy drive too. The rate was very affordable, and the room was fine for what I paid. I might have minded the dusting more if I’d spent extra. Breakfast was free, which is hard to complain about, but I went to the Bean coffee shop and Cafe de Mesilla instead. I loved both. Dinner at K-Bowl, owned by local Korean family., was yummy.

We stay at this motel often, and the staff are usually nice and willing to help. Breakfast is generally okay, but this visit was awful. The waffle batter was mostly water and stuck to the griddle, there was no syrup, and the orange juice was clear water. The apple juice was more than three-quarters water too. I also left my phone charger and an extension cord in the room. I called that evening, but nobody answered. When I called the next morning to ask whether the maid had turned them in, I was told no. We most likely won’t stay there again.

Being right across from NMSU is the best thing about this hotel. It’s convenient, and the price isn’t bad, though I’d pay a little more for somewhere nicer. The beds were comfortable, at least. I’d liked the place when I stayed here 20 years ago, so we came back for a family vacation this summer. It seems like nothing has been updated in all that time, and it needs it. Our adjoining rooms were awkward: the connecting doors backed onto the room doors, so we couldn’t leave the adjoining door open and still get out easily. The room door kept jamming because its top hinge was bent. There were pink stains all over the shower, the desk chair was nearly falling apart, and the pool had an extremely high chlorine level. At breakfast, most things were gone by 8:00am, including the eggs, and there were no forks. A spoon isn’t much use for eating a waffle.

The place was dirty and rusty all over, and nothing looked like the pictures on the website. There were cigarette butts on the windowsill too. At the pool, the light was out of the water with a plastic trash bag over it, and the ladder was loose enough that someone could hurt themselves or smash a toe. There was also a huge leak by the hallway stairs. Definitely not a pleasant stay. I wish I’d taken more pictures. Don’t waste your time here.

We left early because the room was so bad. It smelled musty, the carpet was filthy, and there were actual roaches on the bathroom floor. The bed skirt was covered in what looked like body fluids. The fridge looked like someone had beaten it up, and there were smudges and slime everywhere.
