Super 8 by Wyndham Las Cruces/White Sands Area

The young woman at the front desk was probably the best employee there. The rest of my experience was extremely disappointing. The rooms were well below subpar, and cleanliness seemed like a serious problem. One housekeeper, whose name I won’t give in full but began with “D,” reportedly remade beds without changing sheets if they looked untouched. The same seemed to happen with towels left in rooms. I found that unsanitary, unprofessional, and disturbing. What made it more concerning was that this employee apparently trains potential workers. It also seemed that if she personally disliked someone, she could talk to management or the owners and get that person removed. Management and ownership came across as dishonest, judgmental, and unprofessional. The motel was as disappointing as I’d feared.

The building smelled like musty urine, and the carpet throughout the room was stained. There were marks along the bottom of the beds, mold and mildew in the tub, lipstick on a supposedly clean towel, and what looked like mascara on the clean bed. The pictures had looked clean, and we booked through Priceline because the price was reasonable, but that wasn’t what we found. There were three of us and only two towels, so I asked for extra linen. I was told it would take a while because they were washing linen. Our reservation was for three nights, but we checked out after the first and booked somewhere else. This place was absolutely disgusting.

The carpet looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since the place opened, the sink drains poorly, and there are no phones in the rooms. They don’t have extra pillows to make up for the two small, flat ones provided. There’s no elevator for anyone staying on the second or third floor either. I should’ve checked the other reviews before booking. I don’t know how this place gets anything above one star.

We booked four nights and five days while traveling from out of state for the holidays. There were plenty of parking spaces, the lot was well lit and quiet, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast stayed stocked, though it was simple: toast, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, and juice. Having a mini fridge and microwave in the room helped us spend less on food. A few things weren’t deal breakers: the hotel has three floors and no elevator, the beds were firmer than I like, and there were only two very floppy pillows. But it was close to major shopping, including Walmart, Dutch bros, and the mall. It served what I needed, and I had no major complaints. I’d definitely book again next trip.
