California Hotel and Casino

I liked being around the locals during my stay, and the accommodations were spectacular. The 24-hour cafe closed early during the three days I was there, but I was able to find Hawaiian experience back in business. I’m looking forward to coming back.

It felt like home, from the nice room and comfortable beds to the housekeeper who kept everything perfect each day. The slots paid, and the food was good quality. It’s a block off Fremont, so there wasn’t noise. We’ll be back!

The California Hotel and Casino has a familiar, relaxed feel that makes it easy to settle in. Guests keep returning year after year, and I can see why. The staff were kind throughout, whether at check-in, getting food, or on the casino floor. The comps felt fair, the promotions were fun, and the experience seemed honest and consistent. There’s room to move around the casino, with slots, video poker, and table games all laid out comfortably. It was clean and well maintained, and I could play for hours without feeling overwhelmed. Dining is dependable too, with quick bites and sit-down meals on the property, so there’s no need to go elsewhere for food. It’s a welcoming downtown favorite with a comfortable, home-style vibe and plenty of charm.

The hotel is in a good location, and the bell boy was very helpful when he held my bag after checkout. My room was okay, but I found a pair of used men’s underwear in the wardrobe. I reported it to reception, and they just sent someone to remove it. They didn’t seem bothered and offered no real apology. Reception didn’t feel very welcoming either, and the casino floor smelled strongly of smoke. I’m 50/50 on whether I’d stay again.
