What made the stay better was that most of the staff were friendly, helpful, and knew their jobs. The rooms were clean and seemed recently remodeled, with a good-sized king bed, though I paid for an upgrade and couldn’t tell what had been upgraded. The AVI is a mixed bag in Laughlin, and it’s actually a good 20-plus minutes outside town. The casino doesn’t offer table games on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. They only start again Thursday after 4 p.m., which seems crazy to me. The food was below par too: the cafe was lacking, the food court was aimed at families, and the fine dining was disappointing. Next time I’ll stay somewhere in town.

We only stopped by for a few hours and grabbed breakfast on the way out, so we didn’t stay overnight. It’s a cool little casino and resort, and they’re doing a good job with what they have. We’ll consider staying there next time we travel that way.

Josephine at the morning coffee stand was kind and sweet, and she made good Americanos. That was the one bright spot. We were there to visit family in Fort Mohave because this place was close, and thought we’d just sleep there, get coffee, and be out all day. Huge mistake. Even the low price wasn’t worth it. We’ll get a VRBO or Air BNB next time. Sleeping in the car might have been more pleasant. We stayed four nights in room 3146. The room wasn’t cleaned, and the carpet was filthy enough that I couldn’t walk barefoot. Food scraps and trash from previous guests were all over the hallway carpet and stayed there the whole time. Even our non-smoking room smelled like smoke, and the hall sometimes reeked of filthy diapers. The ice machines on every floor were being emptied by guests filling coolers for the "beach," so I couldn’t get even a small bag of ice. The casino bars wouldn’t give me any either. When I asked about ice for my bucket, I was told to wait for the machine to refill. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Aubrey was the first person who treated our concerns with real professionalism. She listened, understood how serious it was, and moved us to a room on another floor. We appreciated her help. The employee who assisted with the move also showed more empathy than anyone else we dealt with, and understood what could have happened if our toddler had found and swallowed the pills or touched the exposed wire. The problems started shortly after we checked in Friday and began unpacking. We found several blue pills in plain sight in the closet. Since we were traveling with a toddler, unidentified medication in the room was alarming and potentially dangerous. It also made it clear the room hadn’t been thoroughly checked or cleaned. I called the front desk. About 15 minutes later, a security employee came, seemed unsure what to do, picked up the pills with toilet paper, flushed them, and left without explaining anything or reassuring us. The front desk showed little concern. The hotel offered to send housekeeping back to clean and inspect more carefully, so we agreed and went to lunch. About an hour later, our son was playing with toys when one rolled under the bed. We found another pill there, plus an exposed electrical wire sticking out of the headboard, easily within reach and a serious safety hazard. We’d lost confidence in the room by then and asked to move. The front desk again disappointed us. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience or safety concerns, just another room a few doors away. Before moving our things, we checked it ourselves. It also looked poorly cleaned, with crumbs, dirt, and bird feathers near the foot of the bed. We asked for management and were sent to supervisor Aubrey. While we were moving rooms, an employee said room changes over cleanliness complaints happened frequently and housekeeping issues were ongoing. Whether that was intentional or not, it added to our concern about the property’s standards. Avi Resort & Casino should take a close look at housekeeping and guest service management. These weren’t minor inconveniences, but serious cleanliness and safety failures that could have had serious consequences. We attached photos so people can see what we encountered. With the dirt, safety hazards, aging rooms, and the poor response from much of the staff, this was one of our most disappointing hotel stays. We can’t recommend it and won’t return unless substantial improvements are made.

The kids have a great time here, with the theater, climbing gym, arcade, and pool with waterside. The food court is handy, and the hotel is only 5-6 minutes from the field house where our wrestling tournament is held across the river in Bullhead. We come every year for the tournament, and I’ve recommended the hotel to at least 10 other families from our club. We enjoy everything except check-in. You’d hope for a welcoming first interaction at a resort, but every year the check-in staff act like they hate their jobs. We added a third night a week ahead and were quoted a price 30% lower than the other two nights, which seemed like good news and more money for the casino. At check-in, the staff were snotty and refused to honor it. I had to pull up the hotel’s own website to show them they’d made a mistake. Even then they were nasty, offered no apology, and wouldn’t match the offer. After bringing them so many bookings each year, that’s how we’re treated? One star for check-in. Boo. If you get past them, the kids will have a great time.
