Hampton Inn & Suites Lavonia

It was nearly 9 in the morning and we were still waiting for a fresh pot of coffee at breakfast. My husband and I waited at least 20 minutes, along with another woman. I asked both the front desk and the person in the back. The coffee delay was ridiculous, and the help here was very poor. I wrote this while standing there waiting, so you can see what time it was. Sad to hear your crew said we weren't waiting. Please listen to your customers and put them first.

The hotel was in a perfect spot for my work commitments, but a winter snowstorm hit just before I was due to arrive, and the government shutdown made the stay impossible. I contacted the hotel sincerely and respectfully to ask to cancel because of these unexpected circumstances. Alyssa Romano, the general manager, told me I'd still be charged nearly $200 for one night. Her tone was dismissive and condescending. I don't understand how you can be so heartless or expect me to pay that while my income is already being affected. I also felt they showed no concern for my safety traveling in such hazardous conditions. They could waive the fee within 24 hours but chose not to. This location seems to put greed ahead of customer care.

The room layout made for an uncomfortable night with very little sleep. We had a "Studio Suite" and, although it was quite large, the only AC unit was in the opposite corner from the bed. No matter how low we set the temperature, there was no airflow where we were sleeping, just warm, stagnant air. The bed was also somewhat firm. There were smudges and stains that housekeeping could have taken care of, though I never felt unsafe or that the room was unsanitary. The hotel could be decent with some small changes, but for over $200 a night, it didn't feel like a budget price. Better room design and more attention to detail could bring this up to four or five stars. I wouldn't recommend it or return unless it was a last resort.

The location is handy, right between Clemson SC and Athens GA along I-85. The staff were really friendly, and the rooms were great. The housekeepers clearly do a good job.
