The Eldridge Hotel

Dennis took us through the museum and shared more about the hotel’s history. His stories were captivating, and his deep knowledge gave the visit so much more depth. The museum itself is tucked downstairs and has artwork, scale models showing the hotel over the years, and archival materials. It’s engaging and easy to follow, a fun surprise for hotel guests and anyone visiting Lawrence who likes history. Definitely take some time to see it.

We stopped in for happy hour, and the bartender was awesome. The food was good, and the drinks were great.

The restaurant is good, and the renovated hotel has some cool features. It’s in a great location, too. Parking is a pain, so get back by 5 or expect to walk. And I hate to say it, but this place is definitely haunted. Yikes. Still, four stars!

The bar alone would bring me back, and I’d like to try the restaurant. I wouldn’t stay overnight again, though. The room felt overpriced, and the rooms are plain compared with the beautifully decorated lobby and restrooms. There’s no coffee in the room or lobby, either. The bar had great drinks and even better service; the front desk staff were friendly but seemed overworked and distracted. The hotel sits on a lively street with lots to do, which is a great location, but it can be loud at night. Parking is nearly impossible, so plan ahead. The atmosphere almost made up for the room, but not quite.
