It was quiet, and the staff were friendly, but the service overall fell short. We stayed four days at the end of July, and the A/C stopped working in the middle of the night for the last two. It was very hot, and management neither repaired it nor moved us to another room or compensated us for the miserable inconvenience. The beds were worn out, the pillows were about the size of hand towels, and the shower barely had any pressure. I won’t stay here again or recommend it to other travelers.

The rooms are only so-so, the hotel feels a bit dated, and the bed wasn’t very comfortable. What made the stay was the woman running the place, who I assume was the owner. She welcomed us warmly after a long travel day, checked us in right away, and made us feel at home. We also met two very sweet orange “twins,” a dog and a cat. Town was packed when we tried to get dinner, and hardly anyone was wearing masks, so we came back. The front desk woman kindly suggested a pizza place that delivered to our room. Later, I heard a gentleman asking for bottled water because the soda machine was empty. She asked him to wait, then went to what I assume was her home on site and brought him one from her own cooler, free of charge. When we come back to Deadwood, once Covid isn’t keeping us from seeing the sights, we’ll try to book here again. It’s much quieter than the hotels in town, and the customer service is A+.

We’ve been coming here for snowmobiling in Deadwood every year since 2002. My parents and their friends stayed here before my husband and I started coming, and this year we brought the kids for a family trip. We love how friendly the owner and staff are. We’ve used both the hotel rooms and the creek side suites. It’s nice to be away from the wild party crowd and have time to talk with our group. We can sit in the lobby and enjoy pizza together, and we like the pool and hot tub too. The trolley takes us downtown for a little craziness during the day or night, then we get to come back somewhere quiet and relaxing. That’s what we’re looking for.

I stay here for a few months at a time, and right now I’m missing the people there. The rooms are older but very clean, and the atmosphere feels like family with both the staff and the other guests. It’s quiet, with no slots on the property, so it’s a good place to wind down away from the noise and activity in town. Since it’s the last trolley stop, you don’t have to worry about driving after having a drink. There’s plenty of parking whether you arrive on a bike, in a car, or with a truck and trailer.

We drove 300 miles, only to be told on arrival that we couldn’t leave our pet in the room. The place was advertised as pet friendly, but Deadwood is a destination for food and gambling, and leaving a pet in a hot car wasn’t an option. We couldn’t stay and couldn’t find another room, so we had to drive 300 miles back home. Our anniversary weekend was ruined. The woman at the desk was dishonest and difficult to deal with.
