We felt lucky to find this little, moderately priced place. The living area had sofas, and we were allowed to use the kitchen. Our room was pleasant and very clean, with one twin bed and one queen. Men’s and women’s bathrooms were around the corner, each with three showers and four toilets. They were clean and looked new. We arrived without a reservation, and five delightful homeschooled children answered the door. Their mother, who was expecting her sixth, checked whether a room was ready for guests. We didn’t hear a peep from the kids all night.

Kathryn and Paul, the owners, were so kind, welcoming, and helpful. Kathryn fit us in at the last minute when we biked into Leadville last summer. We talk about that stay and the experience a lot. This review is overdue, but it’s a small way to show our appreciation. Support the Abbey!

We came for a few days as a small church retreat, after usually going camping, and had fun like never before. It felt like a home away from home, with kind people and great, flexible service. Everyone slept comfortably and woke well rested. The heater was running, which was great since it was around 30 degrees on both nights. You need to enjoy nature to appreciate the setting. We do, and we love snow, so it suited us perfectly. We may have to come back for another retreat soon. 10/10, would stay again.

The location and price brought us back twice, and we’ll return for those reasons. It’s about 1.5 blocks from the restaurants, bars, and shops on Historic Harrison Street, and there’s free parking. The place is great if you’ll spend most of your time out or if a big group wants to cook in the full kitchen. It used to be a convent, so the rooms are tiny, with just a closet and sink. There’s only enough space for bags and to walk around the bed. Bathrooms and showers are shared. Everything was clean, the proprietors were friendly, and the large kitchen and communal living areas had lots of things for kids. Just know it’s bare bones, and there isn’t really a full-time staff or check-in desk. The location is the best outside if the Delaware, but it won’t suit everyone.

Our girls’ cross-country team rented the whole place, and it was wonderful. The beds were so comfortable that everyone commented on them. There are 11 rooms: nine singles with their own sinks, two rooms with two bunk beds, and a room with a king. There are four bathrooms total, with two communal ones that can be separated by gender. The place had games, lots of books, and a projector. They’d also stocked razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, towels, and even a straightener. It seems to have been updated, since the rooms had trash cans and bedside tables, which earlier reviews said were missing.
