Candlewood Suites League City by IHG

On the first night, I cooked in the kitchenette and roaches came out from under the cabinet. After my shower, the hair dryer made a loud noise and started smoking. I reported both problems to the desk, and the representative said maintenance would check the dryer and spray the room the next day. I also asked for towels and was told they'd be brought to my room before I got back that afternoon. When I returned, there were no towels, the dryer still wasn't fixed, and the room hadn't been sprayed. I even took pictures of roaches crawling down the door. The representative said maintenance had been out that day, apologized, and promised someone would come the next day. But the next day there were still no towels, no spraying, and no repair. When I complained again, an older woman told me, “This is extended stay, we don't do all that.” I'm never staying there again.

If we need a place in League City again, my wife and I would happily stay here. We spent four days at this Candlewood location, and the staff was outstanding. The bed was phenomenally comfortable, and the shower pressure was so strong it felt like standing in front of a pressure washer. There was a mild scent, but it wasn't offensive and seemed to come with a pet-friendly place.

Alan was kind the next morning and tried to sort out what had gone wrong. Without him, we would've changed hotels. The night before, check-in had been a mess from start to finish. The front desk employee, whose name I don't know because she had no name tag, said the computers kept crashing. When I asked whether she could call anyone for help, she said her only support had been taken to hospital by ambulance. She seemed not to understand what was going on, and the phone kept ringing. She said she wasn't allowed to answer it while guests were in front of her. We were waiting about 45 minutes to get registered. I set my wine on the desk, and when she swung the scanner around, it sent the bottle flying. Now my white shoes have light purple spots. Then my key didn't work when I got to the room. I later replied several times to the welcome text that said to message if I needed anything, but got no response. Multiple cards were tapped and swiped over and over, and we still don't know where all the charges are. We're laughing about it this morning, but as a frequent traveler, this was my worst check-in ever.

The sheets were clean, but we killed around five bugs as soon as we entered the room. It makes me question how clean the rest of the place is. They definitely need better fumigation.
