Joey, the front desk manager, was friendly and professional, and arranged an early check-in so I could get to my workshop at the Mono Lake Committee. I spent two winter nights at Murphey's Motel, and the heater handled the very cold weather well. The large, clean room had beds with enough insulation, unlike some other motels in this class. There's a coffee maker in the room, but no microwave there. A shared one is in the hotel's center. It's centrally located, so it's easy to walk to the town's restaurants once they reopen after their winter closure. The motel website is easy to use and gives helpful seasonal information about Lee Vining. They offer a AAA discount, which I forgot to ask for. I'd give the room four stars for a couple of reasons. Other Highway 395 motels in the same class that I've stayed at had in-room microwaves. Walking across a potentially icy or snowy parking lot at 5 a.m. in winter to use the shared one is quite inconvenient. Also, the bed was softer than I prefer, especially on the bathroom side, and may need replacing. Still, this was a very good motel, and I highly recommend it.

The rooms and furnishings are showing their age and could use a refresh, but Murphey's Motel remains a dependable place to rest. It's not luxurious, yet I keep coming back every winter, when camping would be too uncomfortable. I've made it my regular stop on winter road trips to Lee Vining because the experience is consistent. The staff are always warm and welcoming, just what I appreciate after a long drive through the Eastern Sierra or time enjoying recreation around the Mono Lake basin.

The owner, who was also at the desk, was super friendly and gave us helpful tips about what to see in the area and where to go. His daughter makes the cutest crocheted animals, which they sell at the front. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this motel.

We stayed one night at Murphey's Motel for a weekend ski trip to Mammoth. The location was super convenient, and the front desk staff were friendly and quick.

I stayed here while checking out the area's many attractions, and it made a great base for Yosemite. When the local electricity provider needed an overnight maintenance outage, management kept me updated with the latest information they had and made sure I had what I needed. The place was comfortable and clean, and the management was excellent. Highly recommended!
