Yosemite Gateway Motel

On my first night as a Californian, I stayed here in October before driving through Yosemite the next day to move to the Bay. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and my room was comfortable and clean. I caught an amazing sunrise that brought me to tears. It was a really wonderful experience!

We stumbled across this place and, honestly, it looked like the middle of nowhere. There are caves you can explore and an archaeological dig site you can see and take part in. The night we visited was a big one for stargazing, and people came specifically to see the spectacular display of stars and lights. I highly recommend the place, even though it feels like it's in the middle of nowhere.

The room was comfortable and clean, and I liked the separate sink area away from the toilet. It was a bit crowded, but having the little tables and chairs was nice. We paid extra for A/C, a microwave, and a fridge, and that was worth it for us. Traffic noise didn't bother me, though the place does seem expensive for what you get. It's perfectly placed near Mono Lake and Yosemite's eastern entrance. We walked across the street for dinner and around the small town in the evening. I'd stay here again.

The motel was generally clean and comfortable, though the heating was a little weak.
