Hale Moana Bed & Breakfast

The garden is beautiful and extensive, and breakfast was wonderful. Mother is still talking about it! Petra also gave us more great ideas for places to go and things to do. The Lanai Suite rooms, and the Garden Suite where I stayed by myself last year, are always clean and spacious. She even let me use her slow cooker so I could make pot roast for Mother and me. Another peaceful, really pleasant stay at Hale Moana. Thanks again, Petra!

Our rooms were tidy, with a lovely garden all around them. Petra was super friendly and served a great breakfast, plus helpful suggestions for our volcano trip. The location worked perfectly for tours to see lava, whether from land around Kalapana or by boat with lava ocean tours leaving from Isaac Hale Beach Park.

We spent two nights in the clean, comfortable studio. The gardens are gorgeous, and the quiet spot is handy for exploring Pahoa and Puna. Petra was friendly and helpful, and we appreciated her local knowledge and dining suggestions. The breakfasts were delicious and generous. My husband and I hope to stay at Hale Moana again next time we're on the Big Island.

Finding our way there was a bit tricky. Roads near Pahoa aren't well marked, cell phones don't work in many places, and the neighborhood entrance sign is visible at night only about 200 yards before the turn. Petra lent us a detailed map, which really helped with the local roads. Once we found Hale Moana and drove into Pahoa for dinner, we saw how well placed it was and felt lucky we'd booked there. We came to the Big Island for the unusual, special occasion of my aunt's 107th birthday; the B&B was an added bonus. The setting was lovely, especially the parking area nestled in the lush landscaped garden. The neighborhood isn't heavily developed, which is part of its charm, and Petra was a wonderful hostess.
