Holiday Inn Express & Suites Levelland by IHG

The staff were courteous and professional, and the rate seemed fair for the area, but the property itself needs a lot of attention. The bathroom had broad patches of peeling paint and obvious water damage, and the TV didn’t work during my stay. Inside the elevator, a loose wooden wall accent seemed to be held in place with a wet floor sign wedged against the handrail. That needs to be dealt with for safety as well as appearance. With proper maintenance and repairs, the hotel could meet the standards people associate with the Holiday Inn brand.

The desk clerk was wonderful. She worked hard to fix the booking mistake and found us a room for another $15. We had told the hotel our nonrefundable reservation was Thursday through Sunday but that we’d arrive Friday, and Holiday Inn emailed to confirm they understood. Still, they marked us as a no-show and gave our room away. She also told us the pool wasn’t working, which was no big deal for just two nights. Our replacement room, number 108, was awful. The AC, bathroom outlets, coffee maker, and TV didn’t work, and there were no extra pillows. The toilet felt like it might come off the wall with one wrong wiggle, the water pressure was nonexistent, and the tub was so dirty we showered at my sister-in-law’s house. The bed linens were fresh and clean, but the carpet was damp and musty, and the room clearly had been used for smoking. Maybe there had been recent water damage. We woke to a dead roach in the bathroom, which housekeeping kindly removed. It was possibly the nastiest hotel room I’ve stayed in, badly in need of repairs and basic hygiene standards, and maybe new management. We should have asked for a refund, but we simply won’t stay there again.

Omar, the GM, was professional and understanding, and I’d like to recognize him for that. If you’re in the area, this is a great spot to stop and rest.

You get what you get: $130 for a single room. Breakfast wasn’t bad, and the location was decent. The room had an odd smell, though it wasn’t unbearable. The ceiling over the front entrance was coned off and looked like it was caving in.
