Sandman Motel

The room was really cold when we first got in, but it had warmed up nicely by the time we’d settled in. I’ve stayed at both of their motels, and this one seemed a little more dated. Still, it worked fine for the night.

The location and backyard are great, but I’m not sure we’ll stay again. We’ve been here several times over the past couple of years, and previously the woman in the office was always helpful and sweet. She’d even sit outside and chat with me. This time the young man in the office came across as standoffish. His looks and the way he answered caught me off guard, and he didn’t seem willing to get up from his chair to help anyone. I asked around and heard he might be one of the owners. If that’s true, I wonder how customer service has gotten this far out of hand.

The location is the only good thing I can say about this place. Housekeeping was rude and disrespectful, especially one red-haired person who kept asking if I had drugs. I’d avoid it, particularly if you have children. The bathtubs and showers were broken with jagged parts, and flooring was coming loose. We had a couple of rooms, and each had serious safety concerns. I cut my foot on shattered, broken tiles. The front desk didn’t help, just said they were sorry and gave me a bandaid.

The rooms were really clean, the mattresses seemed fairly new and were comfortable, and the staff, who I assume were the owners, were great. They’ve clearly upgraded the rooms recently, but the bathrooms weren’t updated. We’d stay again if we were in the area. The highlight was the hotel cat coming to visit while we loaded up this morning. She was so soft and sweet.
