Thistledown At Seger House

Such a great way to spend a couple of hours in Ligonier. I had some delicious pastries at the bakery, then crossed the hallway to the wine tasting room. Great wine and a great atmosphere.

We liked the location and room, with downtown shops nearby and a nice winery in the building. Parking was easy, and we enjoyed the fireplace. The contactless check-in and checkout made the place feel more like an Airbnb, since there was no one at the front desk and we were given phone numbers to call if needed. Check-in was confusing because the website and confirmation had no instructions, so we had to call the inn that day to find out what to do. The heating unit had been switched off and wasn't working in our room. Calling the innkeeper got it fixed at first, but it stopped working again in the middle of the night. The bathroom soap dish was an old suction cup type and fell off when we tried to use it.

Dinner and drinks at Sweet Rust restaurant on the first floor were delicious, with lots of unusual menu choices. Andrew, the bartender, was friendly and knew the drinks well. We bought several bottles of bourbon as gifts, plus one for ourselves. The hotel itself was charming, and we loved our clean, warm, welcoming room. We'll definitely stay again.

The hotel is lovely, historic, extremely clean and quiet, and in a great location. A floor lamp beside a chair for reading and maybe a full length mirror would be useful modern touches. We weren't sure how to get in when the front door was locked, or which back entrance to use. Written directions for the mini split, TV, and gas fireplace would help too. I'm not sure whether housekeeping was available, which wasn't a big deal for a short stay, but it would've been nicer to have that information, even though there's a name and number to call. Since there's no restaurant, some information on places to eat and things to do would be useful. We'll definitely return.
