Surftides Lincoln City

The oceanfront views were beautiful, and the hotel felt clean, comfortable, and well kept. The front desk woman who checked us in was so kind and welcoming that we felt at ease as soon as we arrived. That kind of service makes a real difference. We had an amazing stay at Surftides Lincoln City, from start to finish, and will definitely return. Highly recommend it when you’re in the area.

The beach view is nice. During a zombie apocalypse, the place might even be somewhat defensible. And, as an addendum, they fixed the heater. My wife and I came for an overnight stay, but the room had a lot of problems. First there was an overwhelming bleach smell from the small bathroom, which looked like it hadn’t been updated in 20 years. The room was cold, and the wall heater wouldn’t turn on. The gas fireplace worked, but only on a half-hour timer. We tried to make do under the blankets, except the comforter was the thinnest one I’ve ever seen. The ceilings are so low that at 5'9" I can palm them, and the room felt like a hole in the ground. If I wanted a hobbit home, I’d take a vacation to New Zealand. Also, don’t count on the wi-fi staying connected.

The stay itself was pretty decent, but an unexpected charge means I won’t be back. They added $4.07 per day for what they called an “energy saving” charge, which I only noticed when I checked my credit card bill. At check-in, they mentioned the usual $50 hold on the card but never told me about this fee. I found an $8.17 charge and called the 800 number. The woman I spoke with sounded like she didn’t want to help and said she couldn’t find my reservation. When I got agitated about that, she told me to stop yelling, even though I was calling about a charge I didn’t know about. Other hotels I’ve stayed at in Lincoln City haven’t done this. It feels like another way to make money off customers. This is not Hawaii. Yeah, I only leave bad reviews because if things were good, I wouldn’t need to write one. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Surftides in Lincoln City is a cute hotel right on the beach, and we had a nice stay with comfortable beds. My one complaint is about Emily at the front desk. It was peak check-in time, and a new employee was working her fourth day and trying her best. Emily was rude and hostile with her, even after the trainee asked her to be patient. The new girl looked at Emily and said she was about to walk out. It was uncomfortable to watch as a guest. I work in the industry and wanted to tell Emily to have some patience with her trainee, or at least hide her frustration better in front of a line of customers.
