Beacon Inn and Suites

The room had soft beds and comfortable pillows, and the front desk woman, I think her name was Carol, was wonderful with my daughter and made us feel welcome right away. That was the bright spot. The carpet was grimy, with half of it a different color from the part that had been replaced, and we had to get our key reset because the entry system kept giving us trouble. The pool looked clean and was warm, but once we got in, there was a ring of scum. The hot tub was out of order, and the sauna looked unsafe, with a broken board above the doorway, a door that stuck open or shut, and lights that were hard to find. The so-called continental breakfast had no eggs, home fries, or meat, and by 9 a.m. there was no waffle mix left.

The room was dated, but roomy enough and comfortable for our one-night visit, and the price was affordable. We felt safe, with plenty of other tourists around. The location was handy too, about a 15-minute drive from the main attractions of White Mountain National Park, with lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. The front desk woman was friendly and helpful, so check-in went smoothly. Breakfast had some options, but few healthy choices and no egg dishes, which was disappointing. We had a pleasant stay and would consider coming back for the location, convenience, and value.

We were in one of the cabin rooms, which I hadn't realized when booking, and we really liked it. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and it was good, though not perfect. The staff were so friendly, especially after we'd driven four hours through a blizzard. There are lots of things for kids to do in warm weather or the middle of winter, including a game room. We'd definitely come back.

The room was clean and comfortable, and check-in and check-out were easy. But it was very cold overnight, and snow came into the room through gaps in the door. It was drafty, too. We have a toddler, so that was a huge problem. We tried calling the office overnight and couldn't get through. When I called in the morning, they explained that the wall thermostat didn't work and the heat came from the A/C. Our toddler had turned it on, we assumed it was just the A/C, and turned it off. They made it sound like we should have known. They'd told us beforehand there'd be no breakfast because only two rooms were booked. I also let them know the jacuzzi was leaking. If they'd told us about the heating setup, the stay would have gone much better.
