The staff were polite, and the hotel looked new and clean. Still, the room didn’t feel worth what we paid. We chose a two-queen suite while I was in town for work training, and brought my wife and kids since it was our first trip to Chicago. Both beds were in one room, while the area called a kitchen suite was just a small sitting spot with a single-serve coffee maker and a mini-fridge that barely kept drinks cool. There was no sink or usable kitchenette, and the pullout couch was uncomfortable even to sit on. We’d booked five nights but left the next morning. That made our midnight-to-9am stay nearly $300, which was really disappointing for what felt like a regular room with a couch. We usually choose Airbnbs, and this reminded me why. It might suit a solo traveler needing a basic room, but it wasn’t a good fit for a family expecting a proper suite or fair value.

The adjoining rooms let a lot of neighbor noise through. At check-in, they also wouldn’t recognize my Platinum status, and the front desk said they were fully booked even though rooms appeared to be available. I’d avoid this Marriott if you have another option.

I really like the Marriott Brand, and this is a great place, but the new $10-a-night parking charge is pushing me away. There was no fee last week, and now there is one. We’re in Lincolnshire, not Chicago. If this change is going to stick, I may have to start staying somewhere else.

The people are what made this hotel great. Miguel the driver was solid, and Myles at check-in already knew my drink and had me set. Niki at the front desk is a fellow millennial who looks late 20s, and I loved her. Breakfast was legit amazing, and the room was just right. I’ve stayed in countless hotels across three continents during 15 years in corporate work, from places that wowed me to ones that sent me wishing I was home. This one was just nice, in the best way.

The staff made a strong impression throughout my stay. The concierge gave me directions and local tips, and even offered to arrange tickets for a museum I hoped to visit. Housekeeping cleaned the room carefully each day, with little touches like folded towels and a personal note. Everyone I met was friendly, professional, and courteous. I also enjoyed the food. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, including fruit, pastries, omelets and pancakes made to order, plus clearly marked gluten-free and vegetarian dishes. The coffee was rich, and service was attentive. Dinner at the main restaurant was good too, with creative dishes like grilled salmon and house-made pasta, an extensive wine list, and helpful pairing suggestions. My room was spacious and immaculate, with a panoramic city view from a higher floor. The bed and linens were very comfortable, and I liked the large windows and quiet evenings. There was a stocked mini-bar, large TV, fast Wi-Fi, and a desk that worked well for catching up on work. The bathroom was spotless, with plush towels, a deep tub, and high-end toiletries. The fitness center had modern equipment and enough room for cardio, weights, and stretching, and I appreciated having 24-hour access. The indoor pool was inviting after sightseeing, and a deep tissue massage at the spa left me relaxed and refreshed. Valet parking, laundry, and the business center also made things easy. The bright, airy lobby felt welcoming, with modern decor that wasn’t cold. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk staff greeted me by name and offered a drink while I did the paperwork. I chose the hotel for its central location and the promise of comfort and good service, since I was mixing business with leisure. From arrival through the day I reluctantly checked out, the stay exceeded my expectations and became one of my most memorable hotel experiences.
