I won’t stay here again. The worst part was being locked out of our room without warning after we’d left our belongings and medication inside. When we checked in, we’d called ahead about arriving early and agreed to the extra charge. I also told the young man at the desk we had our dog. He printed the receipt without extra fees and said he’d waive them because he wasn’t sure how to add them. We thanked him, unpacked, rested, then went to see family. About three hours later, our key cards didn’t work. The young woman at the desk said the manager wanted us to pay for early check-in and the dog. I asked to speak with him because his employee had waived those fees and we’d been locked out. The manager was arrogant, never apologized, accused us of not disclosing the dog, and argued when I asked about a possible $50 penalty. He acted like he wanted us to leave and cussed at me in front of my children. I eventually paid the fees and stayed through the reservation. When I asked for the corporate number to complain, he gave me a member number, so I had to call another number to file it. The breakfast was terrible, just a basic waffle maker and cereal, and the gravy was straight from a can in a crockpot. There wasn’t anything I could eat. The hot tub wasn’t working, and earlier reviews apparently say it’s been down for months. The pool is under a greenhouse-like structure that leaks on you if you’re not swimming, and it’s freezing in there. I had to watch my kids in a blanket, gloves, and a hat just to stay warm.

I’m here for business, and it’s hard to sleep when the walls are so thin you can hear people at 1 a.m. The water had a weird smell and taste, so I went to Walmart for bottled water. The coffee tasted bad too, probably because of the water. Breakfast was mediocre, with a broken juice machine and very little variety. For hot food, it was either waffles or biscuits and gravy, and neither was good. This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed at.

We were glad we stopped here and would stay again. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, including a good Denny's and historic Ariston Cafe / Route 66. The bed was comfortable, the hotel was clean, and the front desk was friendly, even when I called to confirm our reservation after GPS sent us back to the town eight miles north. That detour wasn’t Baymont’s fault. We usually drive from Central AR to NE IA to visit family, making the 11-hour trip in one day and starting early. Snow, ice, and a winter storm delayed us on the return, and by dark we needed a place to stop. We’d stayed somewhere in Litchfield years ago but couldn’t remember where. Our hotel app brought up Baymont, where we’ve stayed at other locations and have always been fine. You can pay for something fancier, but why? At breakfast, we saw an Indian woman with a young elementary-school boy, who we assumed was her son. She turned out to be staff, and a shuttle van came to pick the boy up for school. With ICE raids and Fox TV these days, it was heartening to be somewhere not dominated by either.

You can tell housekeeping does a great job because the rooms smell clean, not moldy or generally yucky. I’ll definitely stay again. Thank you!

The kind, welcoming staff made my stay at the Baymont in Litchfield, IL especially memorable. When I realized my wedding ring was missing, they carefully searched the room and found it. I’m so grateful for their honesty and effort. The room was clean, comfortable, nice, and well kept. I highly recommend the hotel for a comfortable stay with caring staff.
