I had to switch rooms twice before the third one felt acceptable. It was newly renovated, and staff said I was the first guest in it, which I could believe. They’re clearly remodeling, so I’m giving them some leeway, but the work loses its value when basic upkeep gets missed. The sheets were clean, yet someone had just covered body fluid stains. The mattress protector needed changing, the AC filters needed cleaning, the bathroom grout needed scrubbing, and the remote was broken and taped together. After spending what was probably $1,500 on the room, housekeeping and preventive maintenance should help protect that investment.

I always enjoy staying here, and management is friendly. The remodeled, freshly painted rooms are clean. There’s a breakfast snack bar with a TV showing the news, and the location is handy for eateries, Ben Evans restaurant, Walmart, the mall, a liquor store, and Dollar Tree.

A couple of times my husband ended up taking cold showers, and when he complained he learned the shower knob had been installed backwards. Then he came back one day to find the air turned off and his phone charger and medical device unplugged. After being out in 98-degree weather, he returned to a room hotter than hell. They had no way of knowing what unplugging his device would do, or whether it needed to be shut down in a particular way. It stores medical information for his doctor. On top of all that, he had booked a week and received my confirmation with the total cost, but at checkout they raised his bill for “occupancy.” He agreed to one amount, so changing the rates for certain days doesn’t seem right.

The room was dirty, with stains on the chair and bed, mold in the tub, and missing bathroom fixtures. The carpet felt damp, and the AC/heater quit on my last day. Outside smelled like a willy Nelson concert, and there was a police raid on the final day.
