Hyatt Place Chicago/Lombard/Oak Brook

The staff could use some guest service training. A lot of them didn’t know much about the property or its amenities, and often seemed more interested in their phones or talking among themselves than engaging with guests. A bit more practice with guest interaction would have made the stay perfect. The lobby was inviting and nicely decorated, and breakfast was good, with the usual hot bar, cereal, and bakery choices, plus plenty of sauces and condiments. I’ve worked in hospitality for years and can tell when a room is clean. The location was perfect for my holiday weekend visit with friends, close to lots of places to eat and shop. It was a wonderful stay.

The staff were nice, and I liked the room. Breakfast was good too. The pool area was another story: it was very hot, one of the lights was hanging in the water, and a ladder was broken and falling apart. The chlorine smell was so strong that it was hard to spend time there. The hotel also smelled like weed.

Update 2/3/26: The general manager was supposed to contact us, but still hasn’t. We’ve called and left messages without getting any reply, even though the company answers here as if it cares. I had a Hyatt booked for April in Houston, and canceled that reservation too. Never again. We had to leave in the middle of the night and drive all the way back to Chicago after I was bitten by bed bugs less than an hour after getting into bed. Don’t stay here. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels, and I’ve never had such a disgusting, terrible experience.

The bathroom setup wasn’t my favorite, with the shower and toilet squeezed into a tiny space and the sink outside it, but that wasn’t a deal breaker. The room was very clean and quiet during our three night stay. A very nice man welcomed us at check-in, though I didn’t get his name. Breakfast was my only real complaint. It was probably my least favorite hotel breakfast: the eggs were dry and spongy, and the bagels were hard and stale. Toasting them helped a little, but they still didn’t seem fresh. Even so, I’d stay here again if I were in the area.
