Econo Lodge Lordsburg I-10

This Econolodge is a simple, bare-bones place, but it works well for Continental Divide thru hikers. It’s right on the trail in Lordsburg, inexpensive, and the kind family who run it provide great service. They’ll allow caches and parking if you ask. It’s a handy stop to pick up a cache, shower, and sleep in a bed. There are three food options right next door, and electric car charging is just 60 feet from the parking lot.

Check-in was easy and the staff were friendly. My room had what I needed, including a comfortable bed, dependable air conditioning, a hot shower, and a handy mini fridge. The Econo Lodge in Lordsburg was clean, quiet, and well kept. A comfortable and convenient place to stop on the road.

I stayed here a few years ago, so maybe things have changed since then. Our crew was there for about two weeks. The rooms were okay and sort of clean, though they smelled, and the location was handy for the highway. The serious problem was what appeared to be a drug dealer operating from a ground-floor room. The door at the end of the building was always partly open, with someone keeping watch, and people came and went constantly. On our last night there was a drive-by shooting. None of us or our property was hit, thankfully, but a truck driver parked in front of the hotel had several bullet holes in his trailer. We thought it might have been a turf war between local dealers.

After a really stressful drive from S. CA, the owners were welcoming and helpful. We’d hit an aluminum ladder on the interstate, damaging the car, and then drove through pouring rain all the way across AZ. The facilities were very clean and quiet.
