Casa Lu-An’s outdoor spaces were neat and pleasant, but parking was tight, so it’s better to arrive early. The room had a large HDTV, a dorm fridge with freezer, and a microwave. The wall AC worked well. Still, it smelled deeply of cigarette smoke, apparently left behind by the family of heavy smokers who’d lived there the previous month. I found broken furniture and floor tiles, plus cigarette burns on the bedspread. At least the sheets and mattress showed no signs of insects when I checked. The booking process was odd. You can’t reserve online, so I went to the office window to arrange rooms for later Saturdays. The nice lady quoted $100 and wrote my name and dates on paper. She asked for $20 to hold it, which I paid in cash, and wrote that she’d received it. When I returned the next Saturday around 2 p.m., a less nice gentleman said the room was $120 and claimed not to know about the $20. I needed somewhere to sleep, so I paid by credit card and didn’t argue. I woke up sweaty at 3 a.m. in the 72-degree room, partly because of the plastic mattress cover, and because the neighbor came home loudly. The toilet leaked. Hot water took 5-7 minutes to arrive and never got very hot, while the shower flow was barely enough. The drain was so slow that my feet were sloshing around in bathwater. That was the last straw. I packed up, handed the key back to the gentleman at the window, and left. I guess I’ll sleep in my car next Saturday. My lost $20 is tuition for the School Of Hard Knocks.

The bed was large and firm, the sheets seemed clean, and the bathroom looked reasonably clean apart from a dirty shower floor. There was a working mini fridge and microwave, but the TV, phone, and internet were all unavailable. The AC and heater were really loud. The chairs looked ready for the dumpster, and there was trash on the table, maybe left by the housekeeper at lunch. I was quoted $95 but charged $125.40.

The shower had black mold, and the room hadn’t been cleaned before we got it. It was also hot because neither the AC nor the fridge worked. There was writing about DEATH all over the door, so I had to hide it from my kids. Even the beds were physically hard, and when I lay down mine tipped so far that my side nearly fell over while my wife’s lifted up. I asked for a refund, but the guy said no because I’d been there four hours. That wasn’t true, I’d only been there 30 minutes. Never come here!

The location is great, and the bed was good, but there was a lot wrong with the room. The cable wasn’t connected, the shower floor was filthy, and I got bitten by a bedbug in a very unfortunate spot. The chairs were stained with poop, so don’t sit on them, even with a folded towel. There was leftover food from the previous guest on the table, and you’re basically left to clean the room yourself. I also expected to pay $95 but was charged $125. Fees can’t be $30. Bring your own chairs and something to keep you entertained. Right after my husband left, a man tried to get in through the door, then ran when he saw my expression.

The room itself was at least nice, but why put a window in the bathroom? I’d been told on the phone that it would cost $100, and I had $125, enough for one night. When I paid, the woman took all my money and was very rude. I felt scammed.
