Comet Motel

We first liked the place, and the person at the front desk was friendly and accommodating. After coming here for about six months, though, we’ve had enough. It’s a very old motel, the air conditioners are old, the TVs don’t always work, and the toilets don’t flush properly. Today we found bed bugs on our pillow. The owner wouldn’t refund us and only moved us to another room. We put up with the problems because he seemed nice, but he isn’t looking after the place. We’re done coming back.

The guy who spoke to us through the bulletproof glass was friendly enough, but the room really wasn’t up to par. The sink and tub had stagnant water, the carpet was wet, and nothing had been dusted. I had to beg for a remote, and I didn’t trust the sheets enough to sleep on them, so I used my own throw blanket. Given the condition, I was afraid to use the room at all. I should’ve slept in my car. Do not stay here.

We found this place because it was one of the cheapest around, but it was a nightmare. The manager said our room was the best one he’d saved for us, and suggested we could switch the next day when a couple of guests checked out. After what we saw, we had no interest in the other rooms. There were cobwebs in the bathroom, and the sheets, towels, pillowcases, and pillows were dirty. When we pointed it out, he agreed they looked dirty but said they were “stained.” He also picked up an old cigarette butt and ashes from the headboard and acted like that made it clean. We were appalled. We’d requested a non-smoking room, but the cigarette smell hit us as soon as we walked in. There was no smoke detector, and only one towel for two people. Toiletries were missing, including shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, and toilet paper, and the roll was nearly finished. The manager insisted the housekeeper had cleaned and stocked everything. The rental office looked as if it had been broken into, and he wasn’t friendly. If you only need somewhere cheap to close your eyes and can sleep through cigarette smoke, maybe this works for you. It definitely didn’t for us. Spend a little more and stay somewhere else.

In the first room, I found what looked like an old, dried blood stain on the blanket. I didn’t want to stay there, but the hotel keeper kept offering fresh sheets instead of a refund. Eventually he moved me to another room. The sheets there were somewhat clean, thankfully, though I still found blood on the walls.
