The room and stay themselves were fine, but dealing with Natasha at the front desk made for a very unpleasant experience. My coworker and I were checking in for a work trip when they said we needed a card for incidentals. Our management sent over the form, we got the keys, and thought that was settled. About an hour and a half later, at 9pm, Natasha called to say the card had been flagged for fraud, and that we’d have to pay ourselves or couldn’t stay. Our management said the card had been charged multiple times, which would of course trigger a fraud flag. I don’t know why she did that, other than to spite us. Why hand over keys before checking whether the card worked? It felt very fishy. They locked us out of the room, but after the travel agency called and got onto them, we were allowed to stay one night to work things out. The next morning we went down to discuss the plan from our management. The woman at the front desk the night before had to stay up well past her clock out time and late into the night to help us sort it out. The kind woman on the morning shift told us it was settled and said, word for word, “I don’t get why she gave you a hard time last night you guys are fine.” For the rest of our stay, Natasha greeted us with nasty looks and whispered to coworkers. At the valet desk, while a gentleman was getting our car, she came out to yell at him to do something. When he gestured to us and asked, “what about their car,” she said, “they can wait 5 minutes.” He refused and got our car first. We apologized that he had to put up with a manager like that. On our last night, I overheard Natasha giving another man a hard time at check in. He seemed upset and frustrated, and it was around 9pm too. I understand policies are policies, but it felt like she wanted to make every guest’s experience a problem. After a day of traveling, the last thing you want is an unhappy front desk lady making things hell for guests and employees alike.
The café was a nice surprise. Breakfast was really good, and the kitchen staff were happy to accommodate me as a vegetarian. They no longer had the veggie patty, but swapped in avocado, which made a good dinner. I’m not sure whether they serve lunch too. The hotel itself is a clean, decent place right by Century City, though nothing especially remarkable. The staff were friendly and professional. There’s a park nearby, along with lots of places to eat and the Century City mall, with its upscale shops. My mom and I like a nearby Hong Kong-style spot called “Dim Sum House” for brunch. The food is good, the atmosphere less so, like a lot of Chinese restaurants. There are several other good Chinese places around too. The photos are of the café at Courtyard Marriott and my mother and me at the local park. ❤️✌️✌️❤️
The worst part was the room deodorizer. It smelled so strongly of carpet spray or air freshener that I could barely breathe, and the front desk said it was part of their cleaning routine and they had no allergy-free rooms. They didn’t apologize. If strong, cheap chemical scents bother you, I’d look elsewhere. The lobby music was blaring too, so there wasn’t a quiet public spot to work. Between that and the TVs at every bistro table, it was noisy everywhere. I chose a courtyard-facing room to avoid Olympic Blvd. traffic, but loud people by the fire pit kept me awake until 2 AM. Valet staff were attentive and well trained, while the front desk experience was inconsistent. The bistro is convenient and the food looked good. Underground parking was handy, though hopefully the leaking garage ceiling won’t drip on your car. We usually took the stairs instead of the elevator. One front desk employee didn’t even know where the stairs were, and it felt extremely unsafe that a key card was needed to exit the stairwell. The best thing was the shower’s water pressure.
I’d stay here again. The rooms were pretty good, and mine had a small refrigerator for keeping drinks and food cold. I’ve included a photo from the balcony on the 3rd floor. The location is the real draw. Ralph’s is right across the street, and Westfield Century City Mall is about a 10-minute walk away. I stayed six days and found it hard not to go there every day. It’s one of LA’s premier malls, with Eataly, Ding Tai Fung, a food court, an AMC theater with 15 screens, department stores, and lots of smaller specialty shops. There’s also free 1-hr parking if walking 10 minutes is too much. With the supermarket nearby and the mall a few blocks away, I’d give the location five stars. Valet parking has in-and-out privileges, and self-parking is available too.
The room was comfortable, the service was good, and the Bistro’s fries and salad were lovely. We had an early drive out and got conflicting answers from different departments about whether breakfast was included. That confusion cost us time. I hope the feedback helps them make things clearer for other guests.
