The Hollywood Roosevelt

Hollywood Boulevard is always crowded with tourists, but inside the hotel feels like another world, with a charming historic atmosphere that Marilyn Monroe would have loved. The real appeal is being able to step away from the busy pace of everyday life and enjoy a relaxed, resort-like mood right in the city. In-room dining adds to that feeling, letting you have a leisurely meal with the atmosphere of a fancy restaurant.

We booked a cabana balcony room for our honeymoon and told the staff through the portal, which asks whether you're celebrating a special occasion. At check-in, they said the card on file ended in different numbers from the card we used, even though our confirmation email and bank statements showed the same card. They said they'd refund the first amount and charge the stay and deposit to the card we presented, which was the same one we booked with, and checked us in. The room was shockingly unclean, with drink marks on every surface and dust everywhere. It was cheaply appointed, and the lighting along the inside edge looked worse than a dorm room. The toilet had the kind of lever you have to stomp to flush, bizarre in a hotel room. I had to put on a shoe to flush in the middle of the night. The room was tacky, the bed uncomfortable, and staff did nothing to mark our special occasion, not even acknowledge it at check-in. The room service and valet staff were the only bright spots; they were the only hospitality we experienced. Afterward, we found the first set of charges hadn't been reversed, so we'd been charged twice for one terrible night. A month later, the hotel still wouldn't resolve it internally, denied charging that amount, and kept saying we'd used a card neither my husband nor I had ever owned, despite the clear charges on the credit card statement. We now have to file a chargeback. The staff have been unhelpful and seem completely unmotivated to fix it. We'll never stay at the Hollywood Roosevelt or another Roosevelt property. Thanks for making our honeymoon awful!

Right in the heart of Hollywood, this hotel has a lot to recommend it, from the amenities to the staff. The valet, front desk, and housing professionals were all consummate professionals, and I enjoyed the on-site restaurants and several entertainment options. They went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. I'd gladly stay again and highly recommend the Hollywood Roosevelt. Thanks to everyone!

The king bed was genuinely comfortable, and our room looked out toward the Hollywood Roosevelt sign. Still, the view felt underwhelming for what we paid. The bathroom wasn’t clean when we arrived, the room had very little furniture, and there was a lot of wear even though it seemed renovated. The hairdryer was in rough shape, and there was only one bathrobe and no slippers. We also learned just a day before arrival that the historic lobby would be closed that evening for a Muppet show and a wedding. That was a major restriction, and the short notice was frustrating. We value The Hollywood Roosevelt for its history and location, but the cleanliness, room, and amenities didn’t justify the high price for us. We’ll pick another hotel next time we’re in Los Angeles.
