The room was clean, and the front desk guy was really friendly and helpful. There are lots of restaurants and food options within walking distance, and it's very close to the port. We stayed one night before boarding a cruise, so the location and price worked well for us. Just being honest, the hotel is dated. No microwave, mini fridge, or blow dryer, and the walls are very thin. I could hear everything going on around me. Still a good option if you want an affordable place near the port.
The staff were polite, and they had fresh replacement sheets when I asked. The soap wrappers also had contact information for helping trafficking victims, which made it seem like they care. Despite the problems, they do seem to be trying. For a single night, you could give it a shot. The hotel is tiny and run down, in a residential neighborhood with high fences and dogs behind them, many of them pit bulls. The area felt like a gang violence movie version of LA. It's about a 20-minute walk to the port, but we took an Uber. Even reaching the nearest convenience store felt frightening, and there are no restaurants nearby. A lot of places close around 9 p.m. Our room was very small and worn. The AC didn't work, but it was cool out, so we turned it off and opened the window. The bathroom was basically a closet with a toilet and shower. The floor felt sticky, hallway carpets were stained, and there was unknown hair on the towels and sheets, though things smelled clean. The sheets were stained, too. There was a faint smell in the room, but not mold. After a storm, we heard odd noises. The toilet stopped working, which was our cue to check out.
This Motel 6 is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, and cleanliness at the property is a serious concern. $75 total may sound like a deal, but San Pedro has much nicer and cleaner hotels for just a little more. Look elsewhere and skip this one, especially if you're cruising out of Los Angeles and want a convenient stay. Rating: 1.7/10 #hotelreviews
The price is tempting, but it reflects the condition. I wouldn't choose to stay here again, though there are worse places. As a woman traveling alone who's lived in LA for 10 years, the dirt and disrepair really bothered me. Hair on the shower wall, stained towels and pillowcases. I was exhausted and tried not to look too closely. The hotel says “free parking,” but it's actually street parking. There are plenty of spots in the neighborhood, so it was easy enough. The wide boulevard also let me pull up in front with my hazards on to unload luggage. The parking itself wasn't a problem, but they shouldn't advertise it as hotel parking. The neighborhood is cute, with lots of restaurants and shops, plus walking trails. It's an easy walk to the waterfront and maritime museum. There are also a lot of unhoused people, so you need to stay alert. Everything closes around 9 p.m.
The staff member was very friendly, and the place is cheap and close to the port. It's bare bones, though. There was no soap in the bathroom, and no hair dryer, but we were able to borrow one from the front desk. The sheets seemed clean. The room had a faint odor, but not a mold smell. The building's common areas weren't very clean, the furniture was worn, the bed made noise, and the blanket was super thin. There was a storm that night, and we heard a lot of strange noises. It was okay for one night near the port, as long as you know what to expect.
