Star Hotel Inn & Suites

The whole place is clean, and the beds are really comfortable. Staff were extremely responsive, thanks, Marcy! My kids loved how consistently the retro 1960's motel theme carries through, even into breakfast. It was excellent value for money and a perfect base for our LA trip, with easy access to both the 405 and 101.

Nice little hotel, and the room was clean. The only issue was a musty smell like old mop water when I checked in, as if the maid had used dirty mop water. It faded after the first day. At night, people who aren't staying at the hotel sometimes park in the lot, so you may need to use a handicap space. They said that was okay as long as the permit they gave you was hanging from your rearview mirror.

The only thing going for this motel is its location: it’s easy to reach the freeway, safe, and walkable. We were in Encino to visit family. The bed was comfortable, but our room felt dated and cramped, and it was missing basic motel items. The bathroom was especially tight, with a tiny shower that was hard for my wife and me to use since we’re both over six feet tall. The water never got properly hot, only warm. The keycards caused the biggest problem. On the first morning, my wife went out for breakfast and couldn’t get back in because her card had stopped working. I was in the small shower and didn’t hear her knocking, so she had to get a replacement at the desk. Then, after we returned from an LA Chargers game around 11 p.m. the next night, neither card worked. The front office was closed and nobody picked up the phone. I ended up pulling the screen off a front window, opening it as far as it would go, and using my shoe for leverage to get the door open from inside. If you keep in mind that it’s a motel, you may be fine with it.

Marcy took such good care of our family. She’s kind, attentive, and loving, and somehow keeps everything in order with real professionalism and grace. We couldn’t have asked for better care. This is our favorite hotel in the Encino/Sherman Oaks area. The team is professional and very family-oriented. If you need a nearby place to stay, I’d absolutely consider it.
