The Inn at UCLA

We spent one night at The Inn at UCLA while visiting the UCLA Medical Center. The location is excellent, right beside UCLA in a quiet area with little traffic and a pleasant college feel. We occasionally heard people in nearby rooms, but that was the only noise we noticed. The staff were attentive and kind. Our room was clean and the bed comfortable, though neither was especially remarkable. It looked a little dated, but that gave it some character. Breakfast was complimentary and simple but handy: bagels, danishes, boiled eggs, oatmeal packets, mini cereal boxes, fruit, deli meats, fresh orange juice, and coffee. Parking was $42 per night, and the total for our one-night stay came to over $300. A pleasant choice if being near UCLA or the medical center is important.

The location was convenient and felt safe, the rooms were very clean, and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. I had a great stay. I did notice the staff seemed to stand for their entire shifts. They’re clearly capable and attentive while seated too, so I hope chairs can be made available for their comfort during long hours. That’s basic humanity, not a privilege.

We spent two weeks at the UCLA Inn this summer while my sons were in a UCLA summer program, and it really felt like a home away from home. The landscaped grounds are lovely, and the campus location made it easy to walk across the street to the Franklin D. Murphy sculpture garden, down to the UCLA student store, and to other campus spots. The gated underground parking was secure and convenient, with an elevator up to the hotel. The staff were the best part. Front desk, housekeeping, everyone worked hard to keep the building spotless, and they were friendly and helpful throughout. Our family felt well cared for. Breakfast each morning was very nice: fresh fruit, yogurt, Danish, bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon, deli meats and cheese. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate were available all day. We’re looking forward to staying at the UCLA Inn again.

Breakfast was included, which I hadn’t expected, and ran from 6:30 to 9:30am. There were coffees and teas, cereal, yogurt, bread, pastries, lox, eggs, and cut fruit. The lobby had a nice seating area, and our room was a good size with a lovely view. The location was great for a campus tour, and I liked the look of the place and the staff. Parking is available on-site for a fee, in a gated area beneath the building. I’d recommend it and stay again.
